![]() My Overture 2 Infinitys have built in subs so I have adjusted my receiver to feed the bass signal there for the meantime.but I sure miss that LFE bottom. It's Sunday am and too early to call Cambridge about it and I don't even know if they are open Sundays.but I have the horrifying feeling I have just trashed my subwoofer. I unscrewed the user-accesable fuse and it looks blown (blackish line in the middle), but there is an ominous electric burn smell from inside the woofer itself. So I unplugged it and took it out of the system. I turned it on and off several times, tried a couple other outlets and then after several loud hum bursts, it would not turn on at all. Then I woke up this morning and noticed a very low hum coming from it. I watched about 6 hours of DVDs last night and it was working fine. When I first plugged in my three year old Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 10 powered Sub, I was getting a bad hum and tried various outlets till it went away. The result is a very satisfying solid bass performance that will maximize what can reasonably be expected from a small apartment/condo.Īudiophiles with large homes and 2000 watt Sunfire amps should look elsewhere, but for an audio enthusiast that lives in apartments, the BassCube 10 is an excellent and very reasonably priced product. So, I was all happy getting my HT system hooked up here in Maine yesterday. Sure, deep, deep bass is not present, but I think my neighbors appreciate this (I live in a condo) and most home theater and music passages don't require it. Bass response now sounds clean and solid, but is not overly "boomy" or "mushy". By a using a little creativity and tinkering with placement, the BassCube smoothed out bass response down to about 40 Hz and then rolled off nicely. ![]() Prior to using the BassCube, I had problems setting up the passive sub (the one that comes with the Ensemble II system) without getting erratic performance. My quickest impression was how nicely the BassCube 10 integrated into my Ensemble II system. Clean bass can be heard even down to about 25 Hz although about 10 dB down from the rest of its response. Bass response is a deep 39 Hz before quickly rolling off. The BassCube 10 does an excellent job in extending bass output for a satillite system. The cube does jump around when the volume is way up. I don't know why anyone would need to look at the level on the dial to adjust the sound. There's really only two controls: volume and tone. The low pop when I first turn it on isn't a big deal. I would recommend this woofer for those in similar circumstances.īy the way, I don't have a hum while the speaker is activated but unused, it's completely silent. Hip-hop, classical, jazz, reggae all sounds great to me. At louder levels the bass shakes the entire house without sounding boxy! I don't have a tv and I only listen to music in the normal 2 channel mode. With the bass cube handling the low notes, the receiver no longer clips out and the sound is full and rich. For about $230 I've finally created the system I've always wanted. I wasn't sure if I should trade in the whole system (it's 7 years old now), or try a powered subwoofer. ![]() More importantly, the Ensemble subwoofers did not produce a very satisfying sound when I turned up the volume. Without the bass cube, which is powered by its own 75-watt amp, my Harmon Kardon AVI 200 (rated 50 watts per channel) tended to overheat and clip out when I played loud bass-heavy music. The difference the bass cube has made is exactly what I had hoped for. I bought the 10S cube to supplement my CSW Ensemble speakers, (two satellites and two separate woofer boxes). For the price Cambridge has set their BassCube 10 apart from the rest of the field in the price range. You will not be dissapointed if you like affordable realistic bass in an attractive package-just as long as you don't compareit with subs that retail for much more. This sub, works great with all types of music and Dolby Digital recordings. The BassCube 10 is over and above that of the RCA, Yamaha's, Sony's or many other in the same price range. I tried to help him by adjusting his frequency knob, but nothing really seem to get rid of that constant extremely and annoying bass. For example when someone closed a car door on Road Trip his whole room started to shake. I got a good deal of $200 on this sub, while a friend purchased a RCA 12" with port, and cheesy remote control, his sub produces a "boomy" affect all the time and is not very realistic. repairs to the subwoofer, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the subwoofer is in proper operating condition. However, I do know that for my dorm room it out performs on realistic, quality, and precise bass of other student's subs. ![]() I want to start off by saying that when it comes to powered subs I have not had an extensive listen view to many brands.
